nvidia NIC Determining IP info

I just got my onboard nvidia NIC to be recognized by my system after going the tarballs route. However on bootup and when using the Network options through system settings on RH9, I can't seem to activate the connection. It says "determing IP info" but then it fails.

My Hosts tab just contains the usual 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain, and I don't think this tab will affect anything. However on the DNS tab, is it necessary to put in a hostname and Pri,2nd? I don't think I had to do this on RH8.

Anyone have any ideas on what might get the NIC up and running? I'm using a cable modem by the way and it works fine with this older win98 system.

are you using DHCP or static IP addressing?? Try using DHCP
Leave the Pri & Sec DNS empty. Reboot and see what it reports.

Yes, I've been trying about everything. I've left the pri,sec empty and it just seems to look for a connection, but fails to activate. Maybe I did something wrong when I did the make, make install. Don't thinks so though since I extracted to the tmp directory and ran the install only in the nvnet folder. Seemed to go smoothly and anaconda recognized the new hardware on bootup. ???
