I have kubuntu 8.10 box. i have installed firestarter. I connect to the internet using K3250 USB stick. Everything was working fine until today.
No the USB stick connects to the ISP but when I open firefox, I get "host not found nslookup error" instantly. when I turn off firestarter, in the firefox statusbar i see message "looking up www....." for a minute or two and then same cannot query host name message.
There is no problem with the USB stick as internet on my other xubuntu and xp box works fine.
Iam very new to linux but am already very much in love with it. So if anyone could point me in the right direction as to where and how to reconfigure my configuration files as I had not made any changes or have not installed any updates since the time it was working and till now.
These IP's are for my windows domain (all computers are sharing a switch to share data) which do not provide Internet to kubuntu box
whereas the /etc/ppp/resolve.conf correctly points to my linux isp:
nameserver 202.170.36.72
nameserver 202.170.36.73
if i change the /etc/resolv.conf file to be like /etc/ppp/resolv.conf, soon it reverts back (maybe when i plug in the usb stick the next time)to the 170 ip's
On my xubuntu box both resolve.conf point correctly to my isp
I think my problem is with the binding order of my network cards,
when i delete the network configuration of my three nic, then dns resolves ok and websites load. But i do not want this to be the remedy as i want to network other pc's.
Is there any command that might be able to set the binding order, i cannot see that in Network Manager.
