nslookup: connection timed out; trying next origin

Hello,
Please I need uyour help!!!
I am new to linux and networking and I was trying to create DNS server using my local VM (Node1) (Virtual Box) on which I am running Oracle Linux/RHEL 7.2. I set up a dnsmasq on the VM as well as configuring the other files for a two nodes 12c RAC as follow:
(Note: I am using two network adapters: 1 is host-only and the 2 is Bridge )
two guest machines with following settings

rac1.localdomain
rac2.localdomain
public private vip
rac1 192.168.0.51 172.16.100.60 192.168.0.61
rac2 192.168.0.52 172.16.100.61 192.168.0.62

[root@rac1 ~]# cat /etc/hosts file

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

#Public ===============================
192.168.0.51 rac1.localdomain rac1
192.168.0.52 rac2.localdomain rac2

# Private ===============================
172.16.100.51 rac1-priv.localdomain rac1-priv
172.16.100.52 rac2-priv.localdomain rac2-priv

#Virtual ================================
192.168.0.61 rac1-vip.localdomain rac1-vip
192.168.0.62 rac2-vip.localdomain rac2-vip

# SCAN ===================================
#192.168.0.63 rac-scan.localdomain rac-scan
#192.168.0.64 rac-scan.localdomain rac-scan
#192.168.0.65 rac-scan.localdomain rac-scan

I created a file /etc/racdns that I added to the in which i added the SCAN IPs

[root@rac1 ~]# cat /etc/racdns
# SCAN ===================================
192.168.0.63 odbrac-scan.localdomain odbrac-scan
192.168.0.64 odbrac-scan.localdomain odbrac-scan
192.168.0.65 odbrac-scan.localdomain odbrac-scan

I Installed and configured dnsmasq as follow:
[root@rac1 ~]# cat /etc/dnsmasq.conf | grep addn-hosts
addn-hosts=/etc/racdns

Next I ran the following to enable and start the dnsmasq
[root@rac1 ~]# systemctl start dnsmasq
[root@rac1 ~]# systemctl enable dnsmasq
Created symlink from /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/dnsmasq.service to /usr/lib/systemd/system/dnsmasq.service.

I edited my /etc/resolv.cong file as follow
[root@rac1 ~]#cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Generated by NetworkManager
nameserver 127.0.0.1
search localdomain
nameserver 10.118.72.130

10.118.72.130 is my VM's IP

But when I run a nslookup of the SCAN IP this what I get
[root@rac1 ~]# nslookup rac-scan
;; connection timed out; trying next origin
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

Hi and welcome to LQ,
Quote:
[root@rac1 ~]# nslookup rac-scan
;; connection timed out; trying next origin
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
Most likely dnsmasq is not running and the other nameserver mentioned in /etc/resolv.conf (10.118.72.130) is not reachable.
Verify with:
Code:
ps -ef|grep dnsmasq
If that's the case check the logs to find the reason.

Regards

Hi! Yes, Welcome! 12c RAC in VBox: UberCOOL!

Maybe verify/post connectivity (ping #; ip r); host-only ...
Extreme idea: VBoxManage[.exe?] --nictrace ? (.pcap for tcpdump)!

Best wishes; looking forward to hearing about solution!
