novell authentication in suse 9.x

Is there a way to forward authentication off to a novell server?

Right now I have configured PAM to use the tacplus module so ssh users are authenticated against the tacacs server. But since the tacacs server is just pulling information from novell and since we are using SuSe(owned by novell) we were thinking it would be nice to just authenticate against novell rather than use the middle-man.

We are using the SuSe box as a "jump server" so that connections are tunneled to it over SSH and then forwarded out to their destination. This provides us with an additional authentication point as well as an opportunity for some accounting...

If there is a way to authenticate against novell directly do I still need to create user accounts on the SuSe box (without passwords) like I had to for tacplus to work? I imagine the ONLY time you dont need to create usernames and passwords for users to be able to SSH in would be if you were using NIS(because you are setting the uid and gid elsewhere), but some of my co-workers seem to think otherwise.

so for right now our concern is not accessing novell resources while logged into the linux box but merely the ability for the linux box to handle authentication by way of novell.

thanks for your help!

Well,

There is a novel client for linux.

You can find it at sourceforge. Not sure if this helps you or not, though.

I think there are settings for LDAP authentication in Suse somwhere. I also seem to remember some of the newer netwares have LDAP...
