Not able to go online as a non root user ......

Hi all,

I have installed Vector 9.4 on my PC and I am trying to connect to internet with a wireless modem. After some trial and error (and a lot of luck actually) I managed to go online.

But the problem now is I am able to go online as the root. None of the users acccount is able to online. The funny thing is the status shows connected and I also see some data (very small > 100 KB) being transfered but the web pages are not opeining up. with the root account all is fine.

Just to experiment what I did is I coiped the pppd from /sbin to /usr/bin but it did not work (somehow I did not think it would anyway and I chmod it ofcourse )

thanks for your patience witht this.

in user manager make sure you set so you have accss to that device or the program that runs the connect to the wifi. as root you can set id for that program. but most likley you did not set the user as being able to use the group users. that is supposed to be default but not on all systems. selinux setting is different. it actually has to be set for the user to use the users group. good luck

hi Drakeo,

First of all thanks for that quick response !!!

Yes I did realise that so I got into /etc/groups - there is no such group as dialout or anythign similliar. I understand it very well that this is got something to do with permissions but I got no idea which program/binary is the one that needs to be modified.

BTW I use the chestnut dialer. And I hate going online as root
