Not able to connect to VNC
Just installed Mandrake 9.2. The purpose of this was that I needed a server on the network.
Everything is still pretty much "out of the box". I started with doing all updates and installing the network. On eth0 i have an ADSL-router and on eth1 i have my network switch to wich I have connected a winXP computer. On eth0 i get DHCP assigned ip from the ADSL router (192.168.1.x ip's). On eth1 i have chosen to use 192.168.2.x just not to get things mixed up. I set eth1 to static 192.168.2.1 and the winxp comp to 192.168.2.10. With this config VNC is working just fine. Then i run the DrajGw to set up share internet connection. After this I am no loger able to connect via VNC or even ping the linux box. The DHCP does not assign ip's to the xp box, but the routing works just perfekt (if I manually sets the gateway to 192.168.2.1) So my problem is that it seems that I can't both have the sharing of the internet connection and be able to run VNC at the same time. I am really new to linux, but is pretty experienced with windows. What should I try to correct this problem? /rune |
I dont know how to fix your problem, but i am using redhat 9, i connect to the internet via my girlfriends laptop which runs xp and i use VNC to mess about on her laptop whilst being on the net. so i know xp and linux can share the internet connection and run vnc.
I tested it and it works both ways i can see my machine from hers' are you sure nothing with the IP's are changing when you connect to the net? wi77ard |
I installed webmin (webmin.com) and alle the configurations was done in no time. In fact the DrajGw did change the firewall configurations to block those ports (VNC, port:5900). I could recommend to all newbies to get the webmin administration utility/webadministration-interface.
