Question Nosecurityname specified on execution

Hi All,
i am newbie for SNMP, However my objective is to first execute simple commands to reterive the time and mac address of my system or the remote system.

1)
I installed net-snmp-5.3.0.1 on my red-hat box.
2)
I login as "titan" normal user into the red-hat box.
3) i changed the snmpd.conf file.
the changes were
"
com2sec root 127.0.0.1 public
#community string stuff
"
4)
start the snmp demon -> /etc/rc.d/init.d/snmpd start
5)
Then i start the agent in the same system as -->
/usr/local/snmpd -c /etc/snmp.conf
6)
Now i execute the following command at the command prompt i.e;

"snmpwalk -v 1 -c root 127.0.0.1 system.sysuptime.0"

The result is always either no response received from the 127.0.0.1 or the unknown OID systime.

Could anyone please tell me what is wrong in the procedure i executed or what is missing.
Looking forward for reply.
regards
titan
