NOOB--sohoware sfa11a nic

I'm trying to configure this NIC. I had on two previous installs used the DEC21*40 and clones selection for this card and it worked fine. After having to format my system (noob screw up) and reinstalling Redhat 9.0, the DEC21*40 selection in network settings will no longer bring up the card in network device control. I've found the instructions from sohoware on how to compile a driver, but is there something I'm doing wrong? How do I reset the network?

Thanks!

I may have solved my problem, I'll find out when I get home and can check the machine in question. I remember that I had selected "root" group for my user during an newbie attempt to solve something else, and haven't unchecked the root user group from my user. I'll try when I get home.
