Noob Networking Qestion

Hello,

I am a noob to Linux and i was hoping someone can help me out. Where in Mandrake 9.1 can i see information about my network settings? eg. Hostname, Workgroup, IP address etc.....Also, is there a console command that will show me all of this information?

Thank you

ipconfig -a will give all IP info. You info will be stored under /etc/sysconfig.

For hostname:
hostname

Workgroup - I assume you mean with samba:
grep -i workgroup /etc/samba/smb.conf

IP/MAC address etc:
ifconfig

Gateways and routing:
route -n

There is no Workgroup setting in Linux. Unless you are running SAMBA, and even then, it isn't a system variable. There is no command that I know of to show the SAMBA Workgroup.

Also, the hostname is right on the command line:

user@hostname:

Though you could also type "hostname" and it would show you the same thing.

The command you are looking for to show everything else is:

ifconfig

Ah, my slow typing got the better of me again.
