No workgroups found on local network

Hello,

I'm just starting with Linux (Suse 9.1). I have a windows network at home and I have now one Linux box in that network. Internet works fine.
I installed the Samba client and Lisa.
I can ping the other machines from Linux and Linux from the windows mach.. When (on the linux machine) I click on Local Network I get two icons (one Windows network). When I click the windows network I get a message that no workgroup can be found on the local network. Messages may differ a bit because I'm using a Dutch version of Suse. Does anyone know why I cannot see (on the linux machine) the windows machine (and files)?
On the linux mach. I have just one user which is not the same as the users on the win mach. I haven't changed anything in the smb.config file. I also didn't change anything on the windows machines.
I must have forgotten something but don't know what!

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Bauke P.

can u mount windows shares with mount?
#mount -t smbfs //windowz/share /mnt/share -o username=user,password=pass

maybe u need to configure smb.conf.. check workgroup, and computer names , also u can try to make your samba as master browser. u can also use SWAT (web based samba config tool) to do that. u must add user with "smbpasswd" to allow network users to use samba share.

I've got almost the exact same setup at home (two WindowsXP machines, one SuSe 9.1 Linux machine, a linksys router, and a cable modem connection to the internet). Even before I installed Linux, I always had trouble getting from the XP Home Edition machine to the XP Pro machine. The Linux machine also had a problem browsing the XP Pro machine, but it could see both machines, and browse the XP Home Edition machine).

But now, suddenly, the Linux machine cannot even fund the network workgroup, but the Internet still works fine.
