no showmount

for some reason showmount will not work.

when issuing the command showmount I get the following error:
mount clntudp_create: RPC: Program not registered

when using showmount -e the following error is generated:
mount clntudp_create: RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Timed out

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Try starting RPC.

How you do so will depend on your distro,.
