Question no packets in tcpdump on vlan interface

Hi,
i have on my eth0 interface vlan tagged traffic. I setup vlan interface eth0.8 and eth0.9.
but when i set
tcpdump -i eth0.8
I get 0 packets.
I checked with ifconfig eth0.8 and rx packets are increasing.
Also if is set
tcpdump -i eth0 VLAN 8
I get the packets.
Any idea what is wrong? According to all I read I should get packets also when sniffing eth0.8!
Thanks
