No network connectivity after setting static IP

I am trying to assign a static IP to a RedHat WS3 box that lives in a Windows environment. I checked the Windows machines in the same IP address range and assigned the RedHat box the same subnet and default gateway, and primary and secondary DNS servers. However, I get no response when I try to ping the RedHat box at its new static IP. I also get "destination unreachable" errors when I try to ping out. This is after deactivating and reactiving the ethernet adapter and restarting the box. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I need to check or fix?

This newbie to Linux thanks you in advance!

The IP address I was trying to assign was 172.29.107.249.

Anyhow, the issue's been resolved. It turns out I was unknowingly in a VLAN. Once I was moved out of the VLAN, everything was fine and I was able to hit my default gateway again!

Thanks for your interest in trying to help.
