No network after upgrade to 2.6.35.1 from 2.6.34.1

Hi,

I'm running Slackware 64 and I've been using tke 2.6.34.1 kernel for a while but now I want to upgrade to 2.6.35.1 because I wanna run Starcraft 2, but after I built and configured the kernel (I used my old config and 'make oldconfig') I can't find any network cards with it.

Here's what it looks like on 2.6.34.1:

Code:

$ ifconfig
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:1e:68:c1:57:60
          UP BROADCAST MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 B)  TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)
          Interrupt:33 Base address:0x8000

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
          RX packets:4 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:4 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:240 (240.0 B)  TX bytes:240 (240.0 B)

wlan0    Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:16:ea:ad:9e:20
          inet addr:192.168.1.2  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::216:eaff:fead:9e20/64 Scope:Link
          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:11215 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:9720 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:11765427 (11.2 MiB)  TX bytes:1359604 (1.2 MiB)

But when I fire up my new kernel all I can find is the local loopback.

Here's a part of my 2.6.35.1 config.

I'm sure it must be some option I'm missing but I just can't find it, I even tried to include all network drivers but still nothing.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Tried wiith 2.6.35.2 and still same issue.

Hi, are your network cards usb or pci? for PCI please post the lspci -v output correspondin to the device. (lsusb -v for usb devices). also the output of lsmod while running 2.6.34 could help.

These are for .34

Edit: When firing up .35 I noticed a fatal error, something about fuse not found. I thought nothing of it before seing 'fuse' in lsmod. Dunno if that's related in any way?

Edit2: However it seems like the fuse filesystem is built in and I haven't formated any of my drives as such.

tradet 08-14-2010 11:09 AM

I solved it!

Thanks to lspci and lsmod I managed to find the necessary device drivers to use.

Thx for the help

Great to hear, glad to help...

Serafean

edit : FUSE is for filesystem in userspace drivers (such as ntfs-3g), that aren't in the kernel, but run in userspace. using FUSE you can mount directories over ssh, and your system won't know the difference between local and remote files (kde's KIOSlaves work almost the same way, but its easier for the end user).
