Unhappy No Net Connection With Mandrake 9.1

I just installed Mandrake 9.1 which I plan to use as a server/firewall/router for two XP systems. I have spent hours trying to get it connected to the Net.

My service is static DSL and their techs told me they don't use pppoe. I don't use a username and password to login and my IP address is always the same. I have an Efficient Networks SpeedStream 5260 DSL "modem".

Under the Mandrake Control Center, I select the "Network & Internet" section. I am presented with this screen (in Expert Mode). The "[ ]" represent buttons.

<
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hostname: localhost
Internet access
Type: lan
Gateway: 66.xxx.xxx.x
Status: Not connected [Connect]
[Configure Internet Access]
LAN configuration
Interface IP address Protocol Driver State
-------- ---------- ------- ------ -----
eth0 66.xx.xx.xx static tulip up
eth1 192.168.1.1 static 8139too up
[Configure Local Area Network...]
[Wizard...] Click here to launch the wozard ->
[Normal Mode] [Apply] [Cancel] [OK]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Gateway" is my Default Gateway as given to me by my ISP (I entered this). eth0 (Kingston NIC "tulip") is connected to modem. Realtek (eth1) is connected to a hub.

No matter what I do, when I try the connection, a graph appears and it says "Connecting to the Internet", runs for about 10 seconds, indicating slight amounts of "Send" and "Receive" data, then says "Disconnected". Usually says the configuration isn't correct.

Also when I go to the Share Internet Connection wizard, it tells me it's already set up but it's disabled. I select to "enable" it, select "OK", but then open that section again and it tells me the same thing, that it's disabled.

I have no trouble connecting my XP systems to the Net (simultaneously through the hub), so it isn't a DSL problem. Of course I have to re-route my ethernet cables to do this.

Can someone help me before I'm forced to install XP on this box?
