no modules for USB product... alcatel speedtouch Mandrake 9.1

Hi,

I have the old Alcatel Speedtouch usb modem (not the 330) from BT. I'm running Mandrake 9.1 and all the scripts are set up for connecting it. I used mgmt.o and is working fine. The /usr/share/speedtouch/speedtouch.sh is working fine also. However, I can't connect to the internet. It seems there's a problem with hotplug recognising my modem. I think I've tried everything and I can't find similar problems on web search. I think that it doesn't work because the modem fails to be mapped to a port. Can you please enlighten me who is that possible? Checking on the USB viewer I cross checked that the modem is not plugged in (although it is)!!!

From /var/log/messages it is clear that something is wrong:

The modules in /etc/modules.conf are ok (I think) and the modules are loaded :

probeall usb-interface usb-ohci
alias eth0 sis900
above snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0
probeall scsi_hostadapter usb-storage
alias tty-ldisc-3 ppp_async
alias ppp-compress-26 ppp_deflate

alias ppp-compress-21 bsd_comp
alias ppp-compress-24 ppp_deflate
alias tty-ldisc-14 ppp_synctty
alias char-major-108 ppp_generic
alias /dev/ppp ppp_generic

and the /etc/ppp/peers/adsl :

debug
kdebug 1
noipdefault
defaultroute
pty "/usr/local/sbin/pppoa3 -v 2 -c -vpi 0 -vci 38"
sync
user "myusername"
noauth
noaccomp
nopcomp
noccp
novj
holdoff 4
persist
maxfail 25
usepeerdns

I hope there's a solution to this...

Waiting your replies,

Cheers,

Don't suppose it has a slot for an etherent cable as well as USB. I had problems ages ago with an NTL Cable Modem with USB that i couldn't sort. In the end i put in a NIC and ran it through that. From what i have read on the net it seem that this method is better as it provides a more stable conection with less CPU load aswell.

Probably not the answer you are looking for but it sorted me out.
