No internet on Scientific Linux
 

Hello, I have recently decided to switch (wild hair, I guess) to Sceintific Linux. After install I decided to connect to the internet to check for updates, etc. However, I am unable to connect. After some investigation, I received an error message telling me that:

cannot connect because dhclient.conf is running

What on Earth does this mean... running? It's not open, or corrupt. Not sure how to eliviate this. Any suggestions?

It probably means that the DHCP client daemon is trying to acquire an IP from a server. Does your installation have a DHCP server configured to provide an IP to this new workstation? If not, you should set up with a static IP. You can manually modify the scripts in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts, or use the GUI tool system-config-network to do this.
Have you run /sbin/ifconfig to see the state of your network interface(s)?
