No driver for onboard Via VT6122 Gigabit Ethernet

I have a Soltek SL-K8TPro-754 motherboard with Gigabit ethernet build in using a Via VT6122 chip. A straight debian 3.1 AMD64 install doesn't recognize the interface. lspci yields:

0000:00:07.0 Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc.: Unknown device 3119 (rev 11)

The kernel is 2.6.8-11-amd64-generic, but the standard 32 bit debian doesn't recognize it, either.

As far as I can tell from googling, the via velocity driver is what I should be using. Modconf says that the driver is installed. But things aren't working automagically. At this point, do I need to specify this speicific ethernet controller should use that specific driver? If so, how do I do it?

By the way, how would I tell which version of a driver I have? modinfo doesn't have that information.

Thanks for your help.

do lspci -n and Google for the id number..

Also update the pci.ids file with update-pciids in case it is an older file you have..

Update-pciids did the trick. Now it recognizes the interface, in addition to a lot of other hardware it didn't recognize before

Thanks very much!
