NIS - Mixing x86 and x86_64 Network

I have looked around and haven't found anything on this.

I am looking at putting together a network with NIS authentication and NFS to mount home directories. I have a network that is made up of machines that are both x86 and x86_64. The NIS server is going to be a x86 machine but some of my workstations that will be accessing the NIS server are x86_64 machines running a 64bit Linux OS.

My question is:

Under NIS, any user can log into there account from any machine and mount there home directory. If user Mike starts off with an account using machine A with a 64bit OS and next week logs in on machine B that has a 32bit OS, will there be 32bit and 64bit problems with the configuration files in the home directory? Such as the configuration files for mozilla, kde, bash, etc...

So the question comes down to, can you mix a 64bit and 32bit home directory together?

I could just try it and see if it works, but I don't want to spend the time to set this up and not have it work and then start over again. Perhaps someone out there has already tried, or knows.

Thanks,

Jayptr

i don't see how this would be a problem. I dont have any x86_64 boxes yet but my nis/nfs network has x86 and mips R10000 (64bit with 64bit irix os) and I don't have any problem with mixing.
