NIS Domain with Mandrake 9.1 server

Hi,

I set up 2 Mandrake 9.1 machines one as a NIS server and the other as a client. I ponted the client to the NIS domain and now on the client I can see my logon name but when I try to logon I get the error "No write access to $HOME directory (/) KDE is unable to start" I am guessing this is a permissions issue, where and what permissions do I need to set or is it more involved?

thanks
