Arrow NIC not working

hello everyone there..
I got a problem with my NIC. I have Red Hat 9 installed on ZENITH branded machine and it is having on board NIC.It was working fine but I tried second NIC to be installed on that.
Now the situation is that the on board NIC is not working and newly installed NIC is working well. That newly installed NIC is having alias eth0 and the old one is having eth1 ...... I tried all the way but i did not get the solution....... When I am tring "service network restart" it shows following output.......

[root@localhost root]# service network restart
Shutting down interface eth0: [ OK ]
Shutting down loopback interface: [ OK ]
Setting network parameters: [ OK ]
Bringing up loopback interface: [ OK ]
Bringing up interface eth0: [ OK ]
Bringing up interface eth1: 3c501 device eth1 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.
[FAILED]

So what could be the problem? Is there any problem in the kernel modul or in other thing?
Watting for a quick responce........................

Thanks In Advance...

First run 'lspci' (as root) and see if both NICs are on the list.

If they are, try to load the configuration for the second one manually. 3c501 is a valid module name and I guess it's the right one for your card, so try
modprobe 3c501
Do you get any errors or not?

Exclamation NIC not working

Thank you sir for your reply,
After giving "lspci" it shows both the cards. similarly with the graphical tool I deleted the second one and again reconfigured but when i try to activate it it shows an error for the module "3c501" and when i do "modprobe 3c501" it shows an error can't locate module 3c501....
So what should i do sir for this....?????
Thanks again

Can't locate module? Let's see if it's in the system. Run
locate 3c501
Do you get anything as result?

Have you made a system upgrade close to the time you added the second NIC? It may be that the module was somehow deleted during the process.

Make one last test and look into /lib/modules/yourkernelversion/kernel/drivers/net and you should have 3c501.ko or 3c501.o file (depending on your kernel version).

If it's not here, it disappeared somehow... The easiest way to have it back would be to upgrade your system (what will be good because of many reasons) or extract the file from RPM kernel package (exactly the same version as you have) or compile the kernel (because you have the source file). The first option is the easiest from the three.

Insert the CD1 of RH9 and reboot the system. The successive prompts during the boot show you the option of INSTALL, UPGRADE.
