NIC not getting IP info from Cable

Hi,

I'm running RH 8.0. I have one nic set for dhcp plugged into a hub along with a cable modem. The NIC (eth0) got the IP info okay. Everything works great for 3 days. When the dhcp from the cable co. trys to renew the ip info, it fails. I'm using dhclient. I try to restart networking and it fails. I power off the cable modem and pc and restart both, it fails. I have to power them and off a bunch of times to get it to work and then 3 or so days later, same problem. I've tried a new NIC and same results. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Is there anything else plugged into the hub between your NIC and the cable modem? I recently had similar problems w/ my cable company not assigning IPs to one of my computers on my home LAN, all plugged into a switch w/ the cable modem. Apparently some cable companies (like mine) charge more for multiple IPs. Try connecting your NIC directly to the cable modem, bypassing the hub (you may need a crossover cable for this).

Wish you luck,
Beolach
