NIC help!! SMC

i'm running slackware 9.1 2.4 kernal

my network card is a SMC2662w -

alrite i downloaded the drivers and ran the ./,,
i reviced the following message cp: cannot stat 'lib/modules/vnetusba-2.4.22.o': no such file or directory

I then tried to run xvent , but the got the following message

xvnet error while loading shared libraries: cannot open shared object file: NO such file or directory

i'm logged in as root, and using the 2.4 kerneal.. anyhelp would be much apperated
