NFSv2 support over IPv6
Hello,
Actually am having an NFSv2 client working over IPv4 and we are now planning to support NFS over IPv6, so as per my understanding we can do this with the existing NFSv2 by just changing the socket layer which will support IPv6 and rest all NFS client can be same and unaltered.
Is my understanding correct??
Regards,
Ankit Singh

Hello lleb,
Thanks for clearing my doubt.
I think i would go for NFSv4, actually i wanted NFSv2 since its already working for our application and just needed IPv6 support but now have to upgrade NFSv2 to NFSv4 for IPv4 and then work for IPv6.
Can you please let me know from where i can get NFSv4 Client open source??
Regards,
Ankit Singh

its not the client side that is the issue, its the server side. most modern Linux distros already have both NFSv3 and NFSv4 either built in or in their package manager (yum, dpkg, etc...) or source that they can use.
side note on OSx, it only supports NFSv3 and you can run both NFSv3 and NFSv4 at the same time, but looks like only NFSv4 supports IP6 so your OSx clients might be up that preverbal creek.

Actually am bit new to this, so am having many doubts....
Doubts:-
1.) So what changes are required if i want my NFS (Client Side) to work over IPv6.
2.) What's the role of XDR Lib for NFS Client.

I can semi address your first doubt. the client side just needs to be able to handle the more current vs of NFS and run IP6. that would be any modern Linux distro. As far as OSx is concerned you will have issues as NFSv3 is the highest that is supported and as we discovered NFSv3 does not support IP6, so your Apple clients will be out of luck.
I have no clue about the second doubt sorry.

So as per my assumption NFSv2 and NFSv3 does not support IPv6 and there fore for my client side i need to move to NFSv4(Client side) first and then work for enabling IPv6....!!!

yes. that sounds right. do keep in mind you should be able to run both IP4 and IP6 at the same time on your LAN/WAN.
