NFS over networks

Hey,

Ive got a pretty small shell script that uses NFS to transfeer files from the webserver to client machines and back. Its a bit slow, but it works. Theres now a chance for me to increase the speed of it all and make it more effiecent and less bandwidth on my side if i move the webserver to an external network. Im just woundering if theres an alternitive to NFS so that i can get and upload files to a directory that will directly download/upload them to the webserver

yep ssh, are you backing the files up, if so create a script to login to the remote system, tar all the files and then cope them to a local device you can also compress them for faster transfer, and also extract the files to a local folder once sent.

only downside of this method is high cpu time used when encrypting the data on transmission. but unless you are doing a few hundred meg this is not a problem.

Hey will lftp work for this..?

Ive looked at some alterntives, and nsync would have worked for me up until the point where the server has to have it installed.. The webserver is not mine, its a company webserver which im getting for free. Just to clarify a bit for anyone else thats woundering...

Ive now got the site running on the webserver that the company gave me, its an EXTERNAL server and i dont have high access to it, just ftp really. Theres gotta be a way to automaticly sync my /rcs/webserver folder with their /usr/edge/wwwdocs/...../.../../rcs folder. It has to be done in a shell script, im gonna try and tinker around with lftp just to transfeer files back and forth but if theres a client side program that uses ftp to sync folders...thats what i need
