NFS doesn't work work well with mounted NTFS volumes?
I've a system with HDD "x" attached. HDD "x" is a NTFS volume which was removed from a Windows 2000 system. (It was a mini file server)
I've mounted Hdd "x" onto my main system runing slack 10.2. It mounted successfully with no problems. I'm able to peek into the contents of HDD "x". I've mounted it to /mnt/hd.
So I decided to use NFS to share the contents of hdd "x". In my /etc/exports file:
/mnt/hd 192.168.1.*(ro)
And did an exportfs -a. Looks fine.
So I use my laptop and attempts to mount the NFS volume. I will get hit with PERMISSION DENIED ERROR.
So I unmount the main system with HDD "x". I mount another FAT32 volume onto /mnt/hd.
I restart the NFS daemon. (I did not change the contents of /etc/exports)
I uses my laptop and attempts to mount the NFS volume. And Im conntected !
Strange. Did I screw up anything? I just cant seems to mount NFS volumes which is mounted from NTFS volumes.
Please post the contents of your /etc/fstab file (ie your mount options), so we can look at the problems.
If a partition is not mounted, the mount point (=directory where the partition is mounted) should be empty.
So "there are no files there" is normal if the partition isn't mounted properly.
I have resolved the problem, I mounted / and presumed that all subpartitions get mounted.
so I added /win as read only to exports list and it now works.
