alright i recently installed ubuntu and cant get online and i would like to install the nvidia drivers for my system (default support for my chipset seems to be iffy at best) i download the drivers (in windows xp) and put them on the desktop in ubuntu but when i run the required command, i get an error saying that the directory wasnt found. i need to install this driver to get rolling or its on to suse (anything is bettter than windows) i have tried a lot of things so far so im deadset on trying this method

I'd suggest using the forcedeth driver, I have an NF4 mobo and I use forcedeth and have found it's just as good as nvnet. Try running 'lsmod | grep forcedeth' to see if it's loaded. If it's not just modprobe it and then do this to bring a link up.

ifconfig # first just to check that eth0 isn't already up
ifconfig eth0 up
dhclient eth0

nforce 410/430

is forcedeth compatable at al with the 410/430 and also my dsl provider (verizon) uses pppoe will i eed to configure this with an app (ie. roaring penguin pppoe)

great thank you once again. maybe all these problems ive bee having are due to the whole pppoe situation.
