Newbie trying to setup network printer on suse 9.2

I'm a newbie, as most will be able to determine from my question. I am a MS Windows geek for many years (I'm the default computer guy everywhere I go), but Linux is a new endevor for me.

I am trying to ease into this. I've got 2 machines on this network at home now. I've got a linksys wireless hub with 4 wired outputs. the linux box (suse 9.2) is running wired) since I can't get the wmp11 wireless pci card to work.

my first problem is trying to get my windows machine to see the shares and printers I've got set up on the Linux box. My windows machine is a laptop.

Here's what I've got so far:
windows network workgroup is called MSHOME. I've tried to setup a Samba server on the linux box, it's called tux-net. I can see the workgroup in windows networking but can't access the network.

2nd problem is that I am really wanting to setup a network printer on the Linux box so that I can print to it from the windows laptop.

please keep in mind that I am a newbie, so try to be gentle.

thanks in advance for the help!

i think if you go into control center>>internet and network>>samba

if you chnage the security settings to share it might melp, you can also have printer shareing there to(thoru samba)
make sure you add users .
and change (tux-net) to your network (MSHOME make sure to use caps (as windows only uses caps)

see if that works or helps

I've got it to see the TUX-NET workgroup in Windows. (thanks Yellowfin!). I still can't get the thing to grant me access.

I think my Problem (aside from being a noob) is that I don't know how to add users to Samba. Is there an easy way to do this?

again, it finds the computer as a server on TUX-NET, but says that it is not accessible when I try to access it from the Windows machine.

It looks like everything is set to be shared in Samba thru the control center, but I might still have something wrong here also.

anybody?

lol..i no what your going thoruh..lol..i had the same problem for about 2 weeks,(then i did something and it started to work, make sure ue firewall is off or the umd and tcp ports are unblocked...its like udp 135-139 ..( i forget them..ill serach around... ) in the control panel all u do is liek select a user and press an aroww i think to activate it, then put a password....
but if you change tux net to "MSHOME" then ull see your computer on mshome.

if you go control panel >> samba>>users tab>> select a user then peress add.. set a pass.. then try it..lol

I think that I'm just about there. I seem to be having some problems with my windows machine having rights with the printer.

BUT, thanks very much for the help to get me to this point YellowFin!!!

I couldn't have made it here with out the advice.

so far, I've got the workgroup set to MSHOME like you said. that worked great. and I turned the firewall off on the linux side ( felt like an idiot after noticing that it was still on),and now i can see the linux box from xp, and xp from the linux box. I can even open files from each computer. again, I still am having a small problem with the printing, but I'm sure I'll get it sooner or later.

Thanks again
