1)
I am working through some of the other things you talk about, but I just tried to ping to my win95 pc and it didn't work so why would that be? But I can ping from win95 to linux.
???
I'm not a god in English,
but in your first post you write :
> Two computers: Win95, RH9
> Can ping back and forth across router to each computer.
Doesn't it mean that your ping succesfully from W95 to RH and from RH to W95 ?
???

How in linux do you find a shared file or folder? is the syntax cd \\mywin95pc\sharedfolder?.
In Linux, with samba, to connect in a samba shared folder (for file or printer access),
you must specified a 'service', that mean the root folder of the windows shared.
Example (look in my first post in this thread):
From a RH console:
> smbclient //192.168.0.22/Mirroring_80Go -U user
mean :
smbclient : the progam to connect to a samba server, as a samba client
// : the network
192.168.0.22 : the IP of the server (better to use IP, if you use the name of the server you *MUST* be sure that you have a WINS server or something else to resolve the computer name)
/ : separator char
Mirroring_80Go : the name of the 'samba servie', mean the 'Share name' you set in your windows box.
-U : force the samba client to send a login and a password to the server
user : the name of the login you have set in windows box, the password will be ask later
the [-U user] is optional, you can try without it.
Linux promt> cd \\mywin95pc\sharedfolder
won't do anything ... if you'r not connect to your samba server
from the samba promt [smb: \>] :
to explore a samba share use [ls] and [cd] like in a linux console
to quit smbclient and disconect from server, use [q]
