newbie problem:Network is unreachable

Recently installed RedHat 7.1.Using netcfg ,gave hostname=atif.uet, domain=localdomain,IP = 194.148.43.44.I have no DNS,so no entry in nameservers,in additional search domain I wrote localdomain.I have not installed ethernet yet.Problem is that many applications including ping give "Network is Unreachable" for this hostname or IP address. Please help.
