newbie networking questions using fedora core 4

Hi all
First of all I am running fedora 4 ..i try to run the command ifconfig as root and it just says bad command so if anyone knows the equivalent command it would really be helpful
Secondly, I have installed a PCI linsys card and used linuxant for the driver and everything worked fine until i had to reboot... now when i try to activate the connection it says
"icmp open socket: Permission Denied"

I have really have taken to like the fedora distribution and do not want to make a fresh install... but if thats the solution then the third question comes into play

I have downloaded the trial license for linuxant because i wanted to see if it worked before I had to pay for it... so if i do a fresh install do i need to ask for another license?

Thanks in advance
Maria

ifconfig should be at /sbin/ifconfig so go try that first.

Code:
/sbin/ifconfig
If that works then it's probably not in the path for root. When you switch to root make sure you type :

Code:
su - root
The dash is important.

If that doesn't work then I've no idea what's happened.

I don't know about your icmp socket woes.

I have a linksys "ethereverywhere" (tulip) card which works fine with FC4. It got picked up by the install process and I never had to do anything with it. I actually reinstalled FC4 on a machine just to get this card working (rather than messing with all the downloads and installs :-) ).
