Newbie: How to share directories

Hi.

Working with Fedora Core 2, I would like to share directories within the
PCs of my LAN (2-3 machines).

I worked some years ago with Unix (HP-UX) and remember that there is
the possibility to perform this via '/etc/exports' and also the possibility of
mounting a 'virtual directory' within your own PC.

Is there the same possibility in Linux? Where can I find more literature about
this?

Thank you very much.
