Did you create this directory as root? It sounds like you did. If so, it belongs to root since he, you, made it. To correct this boo boo,
, do something like this:

chown -R <user name here>:users /home/<user name here>
Replace the <user name here> with the correct name. No spaces around the : either. Mine for example would be

chown -R dale:users /home/dale
That should work. I won't mention how many times I did something like that.

"ch" change, "own" owner. Therefore, change owner. That should clear up some confusion. chgrp, care to guess?
