Question New to DSL setup; HOW TO?

I am trying to setup networking on my RedHat 9 box. Progress made: I put in the ethernet card and it recognized it as etho (DEC 21*40 and clones), obtaining the IP address settings with dhcp and to active upon reboot. When I ping host, it's active but I am unable to reach the internet.

My Westell box has usb and eth ports but when usb lights up then eth will not. It's either one or the other.

Question: Can someone take me step by step so that I may reach the internet with my Redhat box. I would enjoy setting up a network with 2000, Solaris (Sparc, intel) and 98.
