New kernel disrupts network traffic??
Just set up a small file server at home, and did the standard routine of installing slackware 10.0, upgrade, compile new 2.6.11.5 kernel, set up samba and everything seemed fine.
When i tried to copy a large file(using samba) from Win->Linux the file transfer process would happen in short periodic bursts, peaking at about 6MB/s, but staying at 0 most of the time. ifconfig showed that i had transfer errors, about 100 per GB received data. On transfers from Linux -> Windows speed was fine and no errors either. FTP was exactly the same. Rather odd problem i thought. So i tried to boot the default slackware kernel that came with the installation, and suddenly everything works great! Full speed of about 8MB/s, no errors at all. Now what mistake did I do when I compiled that 2.6 kernel? Left out anything important? Any ideas? Thanks for any help |
Did you follow the kernel HOWTO ?
