Unhappy networking my linux machine with my xp machine through a 3com switch

I am a newbie to linux running mandriva 2005 at the moment and since I am new I have an xp machine setup right next to my linux machine and connected using a linksys switch box to share the mouse, keyboard and monitor. I have both of these machines connected to share a DSL line using a 3com switch and my wife is on the same switch sharing the same DSL connection. My question is. Is it possible to network my linux machine with my xp machine so I can share my printer and files but not network to my wifes machine????? Help!!!

Lightbulb Use Samba

Have you ever used Samba?

I'm not sure it's included in your distribution, but I guess it would be the solution to your problem, I'm affraid I'cant give you much detail, tough but if you dig a little bit, you'll be able to share your resources with it.

I used to have an internet server to share my internet conection in my lan and I was able -from the server- to print out in my Windows Computers attached Deskjet Printers.

I hope it helps.
