Networking Mandriva 2005 and Windoze XP
im really new to linux and its networking... i have 2 computers one with windoze xp and the other one is mandriva 2005, i have a router, set in dhcp but i set the linux box to my router to have a static ip, both can access internet...
now windoze xp firewall disabled, and on the linux ive installed samba... when i try to ping my windoze box using mandriva it has no problems... but when i ping the linux box using windoze no response...
i cant even see the linux box in the neighboorhood of xp...
already tried to install LinNeighborhood on mandriva and same problem i cant see the windows network either....

look honestly if you are a beginner why dont you try it first with a graphical firewall that would make your life a lot easier uninstall whatever firewall mandriva uses or disable it and download and install "firestarter", very simple to use very easy to use and then you can open the ports you need to unblock to do what you have got to do.

I really never tried it ....... I mean I compile little progs that need no win32 funcionality and I guess you wont have any probs if you use JBuilder for java progs but I really dunno about c++ progs
