networking in gnoppix

I have Gnoppix LiveCD and it works great, as does the internet with my generic Realtek PCI ethernet card.

I liked it so much I installed it to disk but once installed to disk the internet doesn't work. I tried ifup -va but it just did this:
Code:
$ ifup -va
$
no output or response. Can anyone help me with this? I've never used knoppix on this computer, so I can't say if it happens with that as well

try ifconfig
and see if your network card is listed probably as eth0
then do "ifconfig eth0 up"
the command should be "ifup eth0" i believe.

I figured it out after a while with google.

For refrence you have to type:
dhclient eth0 as root to force DCHP.

mjcovey, I am facing a similar problem - got a Knoppix 3.6 CD and a Realtek 8180 WLAN card - AND: haven't got a clue about Linux.

How did you resolve this? The slution zui provide in a later post doesn't do the trick - it says: "command not found"...

For information: if I do 'ifconfig', it just shows lo - which I believe is the onboard ethernet card. If if do 'ifconfig eth0' it does find something with a hardware address - doesn't say if its the Realtek card though...

I don't know about wireless, mine is a wired NIC. I think gnoppix is not based too much on knoppix but debian and called gnoppix.

Go to knoppix.net where they have forums on hardware with wireless I believe.

The only WLAN I've used on Linux is on Lindows and it was a cisco card.

Try "ifup -a" or get the Linux-WLAN driver via apt (or their site I dont know if its on apt)
