networking fails under linux mint 17 on a laptop.

After installation networking worked fine. Since yesterday it fails.
Windows networking works fine on this pc, therefore hardware must be all right. only 127.0.0.1 ping works, all others fail.
What to do except new installing linux?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not a fan of ping.

The most simple test that I might do is boot to cd/dvd or usb. Do you still have the mint dvd?

UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:71 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:458

Seems to see some data.

thank you for this suggestion.
linux mint 17 dvd also fails networking, exactly as the installed one.
earlier I had linux mint 9 on this laptop, that worked well with networking.
I will report this on linux mint forum.
