Networking command line/user account questions

I have just installed Mandrake 10 for the first time. I have used redhat in the past, but it has been along time. My questions concern networking mostly.

Please keep in mind I am new to this.

First... Is there a command line utility that can be used for releasing/renewing an IP from a DHCP. Also is there a utility that will give the current network configuration. I am interested in access this via command line only. Not through gui.

Second. is there a place in gui or command line where I can delegate what user account can access system services like SSH.

Thank you . any thing you could impart to me would be greatly apreciated... links ... info ... anything

* For DHCP client there are several programs available. I don't know which one is used by your distro. Most common are 'pump' and 'dhcpcd' (dhcp client daemon). See which command is installed and try the man page for it (e.g. type "man pump"). There you will find the details, e.g. if you have pump, 'pump -R' should renew the leased IP. It's all in there.

* Viewing/Changing the current TCP/IP network config: "ifconfig" (network card settings); "route" (routing tables); "iptables" (firewalling); "ip" (can do a lot). They all have man pages too, explaining usage and options.

* About SSH... Maybe it's possible to restrict who can connect to your ssh server. I'm not sure though. Maybe check the manual page, too

Have fun
