Networking a keyboard

Hey all....hopefully someone out there in the big bad world can help me...ive done a bit of searching for this but it seems nobody else can find a solution to this problem, or nobody si as crazy as me.

What im trying to do is implement a digital "switch box". You know those things so you can have one keyboard/mouse for 3 computers and just switch it between them with a switch. Im not too sure how i can do this, i could probably do something like grabbing the input from the keyboard device and send it to my own custom "keyboard" server on one of the boxes. (same with the mouse) It would be ideal to have a little "control panel" on each one of the boxes so i can just click on the computers icon i wish to use. maybe even as a plugin to gkrellm.

Does anybody know if this has been done before, if not i would like to do it...but i need to learn more about devices and programing c over a network. If you know about these can you please please post some links to resources that can help me learn??

Cheers all
Dave.

Seriously man, it is $49. It isn't worth the trouble.
