Hi,
I've managed to share a document on th xp unit but it's only happened once. I'm also getting this message now>
\\Local host is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network Go to system in the control panel to change computer name and try again.
Any suggestions
Cheers
Jason

Reply to an old post, I just had this problem develop on my network. My linux box hostname is localhost by default on installation and that conflicted with the windows loopback hostname which is the same. I simply went into /ect/samba/smb.conf and found the entry for netbios name and set it = someothername and removed the comment # sign. Fixed it right up.
Explanation: Without the netbios name setting, samba uses the computer name. The netbios name in samba is what Windows' network neighborhood sees. If that is localhost then it conflicts with the name all Windows boxes use to refer to themselves - localhost - even though their actual names might be bart or sue or somethingelse. I guess.
