Networking 2 computers

I've to desktops at home that runs Oracle Enterprise Linux. I want to network the two computers so that I can set up oracle database guard and do log shipping. Could you please mention the steps involved ?

Thanks

Best bet is connect both to a router or switch (and use fixed IP addressing on both for simplicity). Your Oracle stuff is going to be happy with a fixed IP address on both machines; if they're yours, you could use 192.168.1.10 for one of them and 192.168.1.20 for the other, give both boxes a different name and make entries in /etc/hosts for both, something like this:
Code:
# For loopbacking.
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.1.10 boxa
192.168.1.20 boxb
Second best bet is to use a "null modem" cable between the two Ethernet ports (doable but harder).

If they're both on a LAN, they ought to be able to talk to each other without a lot of effort (which is, in effect, the router/switch solution).

Hope this helps some.

If I try to fix my IP address then I'm not able to connect to internet. Is there a way I can connect to internet and fix my IP and network the two computers?

Thanks

If you use a router, then the external internet connection can be DHCP, while the internal IPs can be fixed.
