Network Unreachable error, on Fedora Core 5 (4.91) test2
Hi..
I'm a complete noob to linux, however.. I have no choice but to use it and use it well. I do like it, but I've been a serious windows addict for the longest time, so finding it hard to migrate. So on the stage one of "linux on home PC", I'm receiving this error "Network unreachable" on pinging any random IP address in the world, except for mine own.. i.e. my network IP=125.9.8.76, and lo:127.0.0.1. I tried everything in my knowledge, but nothing seems to be working, and I just don't seem to be able to use internet on linux at all. So if at all an error occurs, I have to reboot to get back in here(XP, on dualboot) to be able to post here. My relevant hardware/software: 200GB+80G IDE Harddisk drives, Linux(on hdb-80gb): Fedora Core 5, test2 network adapter: Realtek RTL8139(probed and mounted to /dev/eth0) Dual boot with Windows XP(on logical drive.. hdb2) RAM-1.5GB,400Hz Processor-AMD Athlon 64, 3200+ Motherboard-MSI k8s(ATI chipset.. ATI RadeON graphics accelerator) |
I assume you've actually set the IP address and gateway for your box, correct? I'm running FC4, and I've only encountered this error when I have network settings incorrectly configured.

Network unreachable normally means that there's an issue with your gateway. To confirm it, try pinging 127.0.0.1 then 125.9.8.76
If these work, then your network card and settings appear to be OK and you should check out your default gateway. If the local pings don't work, then perhaps your network interface isn't set to come up on boot. Carl. |

Could be a gateway or nameserver problem try ping 66.249.93.104 (google) post the output of cat /etc/resolv.conf route -n |
