network to usb adapter

My lappy's network port is broken, I dropped it with the network cable in and as a result it pushed the pin back so that the network cable's connector is really loose when inserted and it won't connect to the net. So, I have decided I will get a network to usb connector, probably this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Belkin-10-...#ht_1842wt_907 (sorry for the link).
I wonder, how do I find out which one is also linux compatible? I use ubuntu 12.04, definitely more than I use windows
Is the belkin above compatible do you reckon?
thanks

I would look at other sellers or OEM web sites for reports of linux support.

I'd bet if you do a web search and use terms such as usb nic linux you'd get some choices.

I think ubuntu has a hardware compatibility page too to look at.

hi, I had a quick look, looks like the intel and atheros are linux compatible, but again, I can see conflicting posts here and there. Do you have a particular one in mind?

Hi,

it took 5 minutes to find a compatible "eth to usb adapter"
I believe it would work because of "ADM8515" chip used in the adapter.
Also it may be so with this one.

good luck

The only reason I hate to suggest a single device is because companies are known to change chipsets in devices once in a while. Some of the least and most expensive stuff tends to be supported is my guess. Not sure that is accurate though.

Once you get it at home is about the only way to test unless you can go to a store with a live cd and try to see if a sample would work.
