PING 10.255.240.17 (10.255.240.17) 56(84) bytes of data.

64 bytes from 10.255.240.17: icmp_seq=2 ttl=255 time=0.216 ms

--- 10.255.240.17 ping statistics ---
2 packets transmitted, 2 received, 0% packet loss, time 1001ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.216/0.244/0.273/0.032 ms
navaladi@debian:~$
navaladi@debian:~$ nmap -sP 10.255.240.*

Starting nmap 3.81 ( http://www.insecure.org/nmap/ ) at 2006-03-31 16:03 IST
Host 10.255.240.17 appears to be up.
Nmap finished: 256 IP addresses (1 host up) scanned in 5.396 seconds
navaladi@debian:~$

But just One hr OneDay Before everything is fine..All the systems are running one..

Router also working..Ping is not blocked.

Can anyone identify the problem.?

hi bruce,
There doesn't seems anythings other than blockage of ICMP (ping).
just as hit n trial method.......run 'nmap' with ping option disabled (-p0) and running some other scan like o/s detection. It will make sure whether ping is disabled or not.

regards
