Network stops working after reboot

All Linux Gurus

We have a IBM server which is running Redhat Linux AS 3.0.

We are having a strange problem whereby when I reboot the machine the network stops working(ping, telnet, ssh) .

This only way to make it work is to disable the switch port and re-enable it again. This fixes the problem.

Could anyone tell me where should I look to diagnose this problem
(arp broadcast may be ???) ??

Have a look, if the problem is related to your switch or to your linux box. Did you try to use another switch? Whats the output of ifconfig and route -nv after reboot?

perhaps your linux box and the switch are unable to auto-negotiate the speed (10 / 100) and other settings (HDX /FDX).
