Network Speeds

Hey all,

I have hooked up my Linux PC to a 100mbps switch and Linux detects that it is running at 100mbps, as does the switch, however the transfer speeds I'm getting are definitely no faster than 10mbps. It is hooked up to a switch with about 24 ports on it, all running at 100mbps, except two of them, and most other comps are running Windows. I have changed the settings via ethtool, such as auto negotiate turned off. Help someone please. I need 100mbps!

How have you tested the speed? did you run the identical test with the 10mbps connection, use the same method of transfer that sort of thing?

Is the speed problem specific to a particular protocol or how widely does it vary when you try different transfer methods?

And when you say the results are 10Mbps: is it 10Mbit/s or 10Mbytes/s=80Mbit/s ???
