Network setup

Ok, this is for the one who knows windows too, hehe

I have one computer that has a dial-modem in it and thats what I use to get to the internet. The computer has a networking card in it too. It also has Windows XP Pro on it.

The other computer has a networking card in it. This computer has Suse 8.2 Pro.

I want the computer with Suse 8.2 to conect to the internet using the other computer with Win XP.

Should i use a cross-over cable to conect the two computers together or a standard Cat-5 cable?

How do I config the Computer with Suse so it can gain internet access?

Both Computers are using Netgear 311 network cards.

Thxs for all help you can give me.

hmmm.
I've seen a similar setup before, except for the fact that the WinXP computer connected to the internet via Cable modem, so that demanded the computer to have 2 Ethernet cards. One for its own internet connection and the second one for the Linux machine to connect.

You can try it that way.
I know you can setup your network card so that it acts as a server, and all you need to do is connect to the internet, setup your WinXp as a server, then plug your Linux box to your winXP via ethernet cable, and set your Linux box to DHCP at bootup time.

That should work. let us know how it goes.

ciao
