Network problem with Ubuntu
Okay, here goes, I hope someone can help me with this issue.

I have just installed Ubuntu Hoary and when it boots, after saying

"starting network interfaces", it just sits there for about 35 seconds and then says

"ror : temporary failure in name resolution"

Then it starts up. When I login, I cannot ping any of the other computers on the network including my router.

Before installing Hoary, we ran the Warty Live cd and the networking and everything ran just fine, and since I didn't have a hoary live cd, I figured it would be pretty much safe to install it.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

do you have a static ip or dynamic?

Okay, here's my setup:

I have a Direcway satellite modem that connects to a hub, and I have 4 computers hooked up to it. I have another ubuntu system besides this one that works fine with no problams.

The Direcway satellite modem assigns the IP addresses.

check your hosts file..make sure localhost is listed..might want to go into network setup and give it a hostname instead of using hostname from dhcp server. then you can put that hostname on the same line as localhost in the hosts file. that will make that hostname findable by your system. i had that problem once when i set a static hostname. when i failed to get an ip address i would start gnome and gnome would say hostname cannot be found. cuz the card did not start that had that hostname. so i added the hostname to my hosts file next to the localhost entry and all went well. if this doesnt' make sense let me know i will try to explain better.
